Anita McCrimmon was born in Taylor, Texas. During high school and college years, music was always a part of Anita's studies including playing the saxophone in the band and orchestra and singing in the glee club and the Mt. Calvary B.C. choir. In college, Anita had the opportunity to study with contaltos Hester Hudson, Ella Lee and others. Anita's favorite past time is listening to Opera, symphony and old time gospel music. Anita was a member for many years at Victory Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Arthur A. Peters. The music ministry at Victory was exciting. It enabled the choir to be exposed to such music as hymns, anthems and traditional gospel, under the directorship of J. Earl Hines, Maurice McGhee, Cecil Dandy, Brother Hatter, Thurston Frazier, Sam Spann, Katheryn Lindsey and Robbie Preston. As an active member of the A. A. Peters Choral, and one of the many soloists, you often looked forward to attending rehersals as well as the regular church services.
God has allowed me to share my talent in many concerts and with many groups, such as IMC/Rodena Preston, Musicians In Action and the Gospel Pearls. As I think of Mama Jessie, Rosie Mayberry, The Dulan Sisters, Betty Perkins, Bessie Griffin, Songwriter Margaret Jenkins, Ladies of Song,. so many great things have happened because of the magic in my life. As a child my Aunt Rosie lee Watrous and Mrs. Virgie Dewitty would sing, shout and speak of the goodness of the Lord. Sing brings great joy to my heart, lifts my sprit and sharing in this ministry has been most gratifying.
