
Armando "Chino" Morales Silvas passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2006. Born in Douglas, Arizona, on February 3, 1930, he was the son of Manuela and Prospero Silvas. Chino grew up in San Pedro, CA where he attended Barton Hill Elementary, Dana Junior High and San Pedro High School. He served in the Army in the late forties and on November 3, 1951, he married Antonia (Toni) Padilla and raised four children in Carson, CA. His greatest passions in life were his wife of 54 years, family and ten grandchildren. In his 43 years as a longshoreman and marine clerk, Chino touched many lives with his humor and generous heart. In 1993, Chino retired and stayed busy playing cards with his buddies, going to the racetrack, and watching football with his family. Chino attended St. Lawrence Martyrs Church in Redondo Beach and is survived by his wife, Toni Silvas, sons Ernie (Becky) Silvas, Andy (Laura) Silvas all from San Pedro, daughters Cathy (Bob) Sanchez of Fairfax, VA and Christina (Don) Johnson of Torrance. He also leaves behind two loving sisters, Dora (George) Hernandez, Carmen Silvas, sister-in-law Ofelia (Louis) Manzo and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Manuel and sister, Molly. A visitation will be held at McCormick Mortuary in Redondo Beach on Friday, January 13, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
