She lived in France during her early youth. She spent two years of college in an English boarding school. At the ripe old age of 21 she joined the ranks of TWA Flight Attendants and set off to see the world. She flew from 1968 to about 2000.
Her many friendships with her fellow Flight Attendants were both wide and deep. She made friends wherever she went, on trips with family, in hotels, and with many friends all over the world.
She met and befriended many celebrities on her flights. On one flight Elizabeth Taylor lent Carole her huge diamond ring, to show the flight attendants working in the back of the plane the actress’s ring.
Carole married Jim Sherk in 1973. The ocean waves sounded outside their little Manhattan Beach home. In 1976, their son Scott was born. Scott and his friends grew up by the sea. Meanwhile, numerous family trips abroad took place, to Europe, Africa, and South America.
As Scott grew, Carole took on the role of a soccer mom. She followed son Scott’s varied sports successes, in football, soccer, gymnastics, as well as his youthful multi-year acting career.
Besides her flying career, she also was a professional makeup artist in Hollywood, notably as personal stylist for Rock Hudson.
But mostly she was the loving family person we know. She loved spending time with her family and her mom Fifi, her dad Col. Pete, her sister Phyllis and husband Bobby, and their children Stacy, Scott and Helen. They formed a loving, caring family.
Meanwhile, at home, she loved gardening in the front yard of the 6th street Manhattan Beach house. When the red roses would bloom it was a sight to see. She loved the ocean air and the warmth of the sun. We had numerous family gatherings on the front porch patio, and I know Carole was very happy during these times.
The last fond memory I have of mom is her becoming a Grandparent. Her incredible gift was her love for her three grandchildren, Carter, Brynn, and Logan.
In closing, thank you to everyone for being here to acknowledge the life and passing of the one and only Carolena Sherk. There will never be another like her.
In Spirit, Carole would want to thank you for being a part of her life, for loving her and remembering her here today…
