

The Beckom family relocated to Mounds Ill, where Charlie grew up and graduated from Douglass Township High School. She had five brothers that have all preceded her in death: William, James, Larcell, Willie Lee & Roscoe. She is survived by her dear sister Ruth Thornton Richman in St. Louis Mo.
Charlie has two surviving daughters, Beverly J Corder Chaney, and Kimberly J Lewis; five Grandchildren: Jermaine Spearman, Brian Corder, Geniva Myricks, Mariah Murray and Jayden Johnson; Great grandchildren Amari, Nijah, Fabian, and Xhaiden Spearman; Sister-In-Laws Charlene Beckom, Cora Beckom; Hazel Beckom Owens; Nieces Bertha Richmond-Morris, Ronion Henry & Melonie St. Lewis; Nephews Kevin R, Tony, James & Karlton Beckom; Grand-nieces and nephews Carrington B, Cameron B, Christopher B, Karlesha B, Steven K, Yana H, Christopher M, Nathan & Jordyn B, plus many cousins; Son-in-laws Gerald Corder, Ray Murray & Dusharkie Johnson.
Charlie lived in Chicago and Detroit before relocating with her family to Los Angeles, CA in 1974. She has been a member of Peach Chapel Church for over 30 years, where she was a faithful choir member & on the Usher’s Board. She was a homemaker, worked in Security, and as a Hospitality Specialist at Beverly’s Fashion Boutique before retiring in 2007.
Charlie was a special lady that always had a song in her heart...So full of life, love, joy & inner peace! She loved to Praise the Lord thru lyrics, and was a very kind and considerate person who loved unconditionally. She was a long time member of the DollarHide Senior Center in Compton, and enjoyed singing in the choir. She moved from her Compton home of 40 years in Jan. of 2015 to Assisted Living in Long Beach. There she participated in many activities and was the soloist during Sunday services. She loved to sing, cook, help those in need, and make people happy!
