
Dennis McGowanJuly 5, 1946 - January 19, 2007Dennis fought a courageous battle against a brain tumor, and passed away peacefully at home. He will be remembered for his compassionate character, and for his commitment to the people he loved, and the things he believed in. Dennis and his wife Nancy were married in Eugene Oregon 36 years ago. Together they had five children: Isaac (Genevieve) McGowan, Ivy (Kyle) Morrow, Jesse McGowan, Louis McGowan, and Tobias McGowan. Dennis is also survived by his brother, Tim McGowan, and 2 grandchildren, Julia and Ruby Morrow. He was preceded in death by his parents Allan and Naomi McGowan. Dennis had a deep passion for athletics, both as an athlete and a coach. He won a swimming scholarship to the University of Oregon, where he competed for four years. Dennis continued to swim competitively later in life, and to run long distance races, including several marathons. Dennis' lifelong love for coaching kids began after college, when he took the job of head coach for the LeGrande swim team in Eastern Oregon. Dennis coached teams for his own children in baseball and soccer for more than 18 years. Dennis was the co-owner of Bullseye Sign Studio, which he operated in the South Bay for more than 15 years.The Graveside Service will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday January 27, 2007 at 11am.
