Denyse Greer

Denyse grew up attending First Baptist Church in El Dorado, where she was a member of the choir, a youth usher, and a youth counselor at vacation bible school. Denyse was part of the first group of black students to integrate Rogers Junior High School, and held the honor of becoming the first black homecoming queen at El Dorado High. She graduated with a degree in journalism from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and from UCLA School of Law, earning her J.D.

Denyse practiced law for many years at the law firm of Kinkle, Rodiger, & Spriggs in Los Angeles, where she became the first woman as well as the first black partner. She started her own law practice, founded a family-run record label, and later went back into law, working until recently at Raffalow, Bretoi, Lutz & Stele.

Denyse passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 in Los Angeles after a brief illness.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Cheryl Greer-Modica, and her niece Chelsea Greer.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Alexander and her daughter, Imani G. Alexander of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Sharman E. Buggs (Bill) of Carson, CA; three brothers, Julian D. Edmondson, II of Washington, D.C.; Van Ora Edmondson, Sr. of El Dorado, AR; and Isaac L. Greer Jr. (Sherita) of Midland, TX; many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, god-children, and an abundance of relatives and friends.
