Torrance resident Donna Marie Sanford passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on February 15, 1956, in Los Angeles to Eddie and Iva Encinas, Donna was raised in the Silver Lake neighborhood alongside her older brother, Dennis. She graduated from John Marshall High School and carried with her throughout life the warmth, determination, and adventurous spirit that defined her from an early age.
At 23, Donna met Stuart J. Sanford, and the two married two years later. They settled in the Eagle Rock neighborhood, where they raised their two children, Ryan and Melissa. Donna was devoted to providing a stable and supportive home for her family and took great pride in her role as a mother and grandmother.
Donna dedicated more than three decades to Sysco, where she built a respected and successful career as a collections manager. She was known for her strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to connect with people both professionally and personally.
After retirement, Donna embraced a new chapter and fulfilled a lifelong dream of living near the ocean. In December 2021, she moved to Torrance, where she enjoyed being closer to the beach and surrounded by dear friends.
Donna found a strong sense of community through the Hash House Harriers, a running and social club that became an important part of her life for more than 20 years. Over the years, the friendships she built through hashing grew into lasting bonds, and many members became her chosen family. Whether on a trail, at a gathering, or on one of the group’s many adventures, Donna valued the camaraderie, laughter, and shared experiences that came with being part of the hash community. The friendships she made there brought her great joy and remained a cherished part of her life.
Donna lived life with enthusiasm and curiosity. Friends have quoted her as often saying, “Live your life". She loved traveling, shopping, skiing, scuba diving, participating in hashing adventures and so much more. She never passed up an opportunity for an outdoor adventure and was happiest exploring new places, sharing experiences with friends, and stopping to pet every dog she encountered along the way.
Above all, Donna will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, kindness, sense of fun, and deep love for her family, friends and pets. She leaves behind her older sister, Sheryl, children, Ryan and Melissa, and five grandchildren.
