She was born in Los Angeles, December 26, 1930, the daughter of Lester Dykes and Mary Jewel Haze Dykes. By the age of 3 she was orphaned when both parents succumbed to fatal illnesses. Ultimately, she was sent to be raised by her paternal grandmother in San Jose where she remained, until as a teenager she returned to the Los Angeles area where she lived out her life.
She was a quiet and humble person, who was loved by many friends throughout the years. Most notably was the 20 years spent as the President of the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization which owns the Grace Manor apartment complex wherein she resided for her last 50+ years. She was honorably recognized for her longevity of services when a rose garden was created there and dedicated to her.
Nicknamed “Sweet Dottie” by many of her friends, she will be remembered for her generous and loving nature, her sense of humor, and always with a smile on her face.
