September 1, 1923 – June 24, 2013
Janey Kuska passed away peacefully in her home on Cowan Avenue with her son David by her side. Even though she was not in good health she expressed many times that she loved being alive and that she loved her family and friends. Janey spent her childhood in Ogallala, Nebraska. The Cornhusker values instilled there never her left her. She was the 1st-Prize-Baby at the County Fair. Janey was especially proud of having been the first Drum Major of the Ogallala High School Marching Band. As a Job's Daughter she learned of civic service during her youth. She was a bit of a prankster, always. Janey attended Lindenwood College in Missouri and then worked for the U.S Army during World War II. She moved to her home in California in 1950 and raised David and Janet in the warmth of Los Angeles. She was a devoted mom, sister, aunt and granny. She loved her family and built an extended community for us with her years of monthly newsletters. Those that received her newsletter were lucky enough to see Janey's intellect and dry but hilarious sense of humor. When asked what she had learned in life, she wrote "Be proud of what you do. Cause no hurt. Try to contribute usefully to humanity. There is so much to love." Janey is survived by her children, David Kuska and Janet Harnsberger (Ric); her grandsons David, Danny (Danielle), and Dylan, her brother Danny Rasdal and her beloved nieces and nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her parents Earl and Agnes Rasdal, and her sister Gerry. Janey's family would like everyone to know of their gratitude to Mary, Janey's caretaker and friend, who was by her side for many years. Services will be at White & Day Mortuary, Sunday, June 30th at noon. Reception to follow. Address: 3215 Sepulveda, Manhattan Beach, 90260; 310-792-7575.
