
Mr. Daly was an Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII, and a combat bombardier on B-24's in the South Pacific, flying 51 missions. He was awarded several times including a WWII Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbons, and a Phillipine Liberation Ribbon. He was a graduate of Villanova University, a trustee of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, and Life Member of The Retired Officers Association.
Mr. Daly enjoyed an early management career at Kraft Foods and the Standard Milling Company . After becoming handicapped, he moved his family to Miami FL and worked as a Supervisor for the United States Postal Service for two decades, being nominated twice for Handicapped Man of the Year. He traveled to the White House in 1971 and received an award from President Nixon for Outstanding Handicapped man of the Year.
He was an avid traveler and golf enthusiast and was a member of Oceanside Country Club and Halifax Yacht Club in Ormond Beach, FL.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, his "Darlin Lily", Lillian Mullen Daly; sons Edward of Berkeley, CA and Thomas of Long Beach, CA; daughters Jane Daly Gamble (Duncan) of Redondo Beach, CA, Patti Kriegshauser (Alan) of Kirkwood, MO, and Kathy Pape (Lew) of Palos Verdes Estates, CA. He is also survived by six beautiful grandchildren, Mike McGowan (Jill), Grady Gamble, Matt and Ian Pape, and Katie and Kelly Kriegshauser, and one great grandson, Michael McGowan III. He is also survived by Marcia Daly, sister-in-law, Susie Daly, neice and all his beloved Mullen nieces and nephews in Philadelphia.
A Funeral Mass for family and friends will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach on Monday August 17th at 9:30 AM. Donations may be made to Camp Del Corazon at www.campdelcorazon.org.
