March 24, 1930 to February 9, 2005
Eleanor Lois Mitchell, a 32 year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at the age of 74 in Torrance.
Eleanor was born to Frank and Marie DePol on March 24, 1930 in the City of Delawana/Clifton, New Jersey. She attended St. Mary's High School in Rutherford, New Jersey, and later graduated from the Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing, Teaneck, New Jersey, as a Registered Nurse.
She married John B. Mitchell on June 7, 1952. They resided in northern New Jersey until 1972, when the family moved to Rancho Palos Verdes.
Eleanor was the dedicated mother of five children: Mark, Denise, Judy, Gregory, and John David. She was also the loving grandmother of twelve grandchildren: Joel and Lora Mitchell (Mark and Donnis Mitchell); Bryan, Scott, Craig, and Jeffrey Belden (Glenn and Denise Belden); Danielle, Colleen, and Kelly Keenan (Dan and Judy Keenan); and Brian Bromm, Sean and Shea Mitchell (Gregory and Rebecca Mitchell).
In addition to her family, Eleanor's greatest loves were her friends, her home, and her church. First, and foremost, however, was her commitment and dedication to her Lord, Jesus Christ. Eleanor exercised her gifts of mercy and hospitality as the need arose and was always prepared to pray for the needs of family and friends
Eleanor was actively involved in her church, the St. John Fisher Catholic Community of Rancho Palos Verdes. She was a Eucharistic Minister (Co-Captain), a RCIA Instructor and Sponsor, a member of Guild 8/9, and she ably served in the Church's Hospitality Ministry.
A centerpiece of her Catholic faith was her strong devotion to Mary, the mother of her Lord. Eleanor was a member of the Magnificate Prayer Group and worked with, and on behalf of, the Daughters of Mary and Joseph. She faithfully attended Medjugorie Peace Conferences, made pilgrimages to Lourdes and Medjugorie, and traveled to the Holy Land.
In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Eleanor is survived by two brothers, Robert DePol of Laguna Hills, California, and Richard DePol of Butler, New Jersey.
The rosary will be held at St. John Fisher Church Sunday, February 13th at 7:30 p.m. and a funeral mass will be said in her honor at St. John Fisher Church on Monday, February 14th, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
Donations may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church (on behalf of the Friends of Father Jarlath), the Daughters of Mary and Joseph, or the Little Sisters of the Poor.
