Elizabeth B. Beigel

Elizabeth Beigel, 77, of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Born in Long Beach, she was a life-long resident of the South Bay. After receiving a BA in Literature from Cal State Los Angeles, she married her husband of 53 years, Harvey, on July 26, 1956.

She was proud of raising her two sons, William (Bill) and Richard, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their school functions and sporting events. She was a devoted volunteer at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro for over 15 years, and served in a number of leadership roles there. She was instrumental in setting up the Aquarium Gift Shop, and was also the driving force behind the "Grunion Run," a 10-K road race, which was a long time fundraiser for the Aquarium. She and her husband Harvey enjoyed traveling abroad and touring Europe, Japan, Italy, Hawaii, and many other locations. She loved her family and two grandchildren. Dear mother of Bill and wife Dawn of Torrance, and Richard, of Long Beach and proud grandmother of Jim and Linda.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Boulevard, Torrance, CA. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cabrillo Marine Museum.
