Esther Florence Kane

Esther Kane, a resident of Torrance for over 50 years, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2006 at the age of 89. Born in Plumville, Pennsylvania on May 18, 1917, Esther and her husband, Tom, moved to Southern California in the early 1940's. Esther was an avid gardener, had a lifelong love of reading, and was a devoted Lakers fan. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend, but will be most remembered as the proudest grandmother ever to her precious grandchildren, Katie and Kristie. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Tom Kane, and siblings Eugene Pifer, Kay Resh, Jim Pifer, and Mary Beatty. She is survived by her three children: Tom Kane, Jr., daughters Mary Kathryn Kane and Suzie Kane Wand, son-in-law Tom Wand, granddaughters Katie Leigh and Kristie Marie Wand, sister-in-law Helen Kane, and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Green Hills Memorial Park Chapel on Thursday December 14, 2006 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Torrance Community Services Department for a park bench and a tree that will be planted in memory of Esther.
