Evelyn Marie Acree, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Saturday December 2, 2006. Born in Oakland, California, Evelyn resided in the South Bay for more than 60 years and celebrated her 89th birthday two weeks before her death.
A lifetime of California memories comprised the life of our "Bami". The daughter of a Porterville, CA farmer, Evelyn graduated from high school at the age of 16. After attending Belmont and Immaculate Heart colleges she received her RN diploma from the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles. Evelyn worked as an RN for 25 years, including service in the Army Corps of Nurses during World War II. In 1945 Evelyn married life long South Bay resident, Bill Acree, and enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Bill and Evelyn raised eight children. Evelyn is survived by children: Marie Acree-Goldey of Hermosa Beach; Janette (Jim) White, their sons Joe(Holly) and Mike (Erica), of Anchorage, AK; Kathy Ajack, her daughters Heather (Steve), Megan (Brian), Jennifer (Sean) and Nicole, of Ventura; Bob Acree, his daughter Lindsey of Kohala, HI; Louise (Steve) LaGuardia, their children, Jessica (Daniel), Zack and Cory, of Westchester; Marty (Lisa) Acree, their son, Timothy, of El Portal, CA; Jack (Barbara)Acree, son Curtis, of Hilo, Hawaii; Great Grandchildren Rachel, Hailey and Lauren White; Brothers, Bill and Fred Tholcke; In Laws Grace Tholcke, Lucile and Leo Mock, Chet and Jean Acree. The family wishes to acknowledge Ruby, Renette, Terry and Minda, whose in-home care enriched and graced our beloved Bami's life. Extended family and friends too numerous to mention will also feel the loss of Evelyn's joyful, loving presence.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her Husband, Bill Acree; Son, Tim Acree; Parents, Anna and William Tholcke; Brother, George Tholcke; Sister in Law, Pat Tholcke; Sister in Law, Mary Tholcke and Son in Law, Fred Goldey.
Evelyn was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hermosa Beach for more than 50 years.
Services for Evelyn will begin with a viewing on Friday December 8, from 5 to 7 PM at White and Day Mortuary, 3215 Sepulveda Blvd in Manhattan Beach. A closed casket Rosary Service will follow at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Saturday December 9 at Noon, followed by a reception.
