Frances B. Brewer

Frances Blackman Brewer passed away on October 25, 2006, just 6 days before her 92nd birthday. A native Californian and longtime South Bay resident, Frances is survived by her 3 sons, Burleigh of Irvine, California and his wife, Judy, Tim of Issaquah, Washington and Jerry of Park City, Utah and his wife, Susan, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Frances was born October 31, 1914 in Beverly Hills, California where she attended elementary and high school. In 1936 she graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles where she served as Freshman Class Vice-President and was active in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. It was at UCLA where she met her husband, C.L. Brewer.

Frances and C.L. were married in 1938 in Beverly Hills and then moved to Mineral Wells, Texas, San Francisco and Santa Monica during WWII. After the war they lived in Manhattan Beach from 1946 to 1975 and finally settled in Hawthorne after C.L.'s retirement. They spent 61 happy years together before C.L.'s death in 1999. Throughout her life, Frances was devoted to her family and friends and loved gardening (she was well known for her Cymbidiums) and cooking. She was a member of the Mayflower Society and, until recently, was an active member of The Sandpipers. With her happy, positive attitude, Frances was an inspiration to many. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of Frances' long and happy life will be held November 18, 2006 at White and Day Chapel, Manhattan Beach, California. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in her name to The Braille Institute Tribute Fund.
