Frank Genta was born on January 15, 1923 in Frogtown, Arkansas. He was known as "Babe" because he was the youngest of the six children of Joseph Genta and Blanch Nicolle. Frank moved with his family to California and settled in San Pedro. He graduated from San Pedro High School with a "PHD"; a Pedro High Diploma, with the Summer 1942 class.
Frank enlisted in the US Navy in December 1942 and also served with a Navy Hospital Corps attached to the US Marines in World War II. He served in the South Pacific Theater and earned these four service medals: Navy Good Conduct, Asiatic Pacific Theater, Victory in World War II, and the Philippine Liberation.
In April 1948, Frank married Clarice Springer. Together they created a loving family and were hosts of many family gatherings, potlucks and parties in their home. Many have fond memories of the 4th of July at the Gentas.
Frank worked in many, many places over his lifetime including: Green Hills Memorial Park, Laborers Local 802, Torrance Auto Parts, and in the homes of most of his family and friends. He was a master of all trades. There wasn't anything that he couldn't fix.
Frank passed away on February 5, 2015 at the age of 92, peacefully, in his sleep.
Frank will be greatly missed by children: Francine (Les) Elkind, Martha (Bruce) Huthmacher, Susan Genta, Steve (Carol) Genta, Bill (Mindy) Genta, and John(Debbie) Genta; grandchildren: Sarah (Gary) Minnaert, Kii (Devon) Miller, Scott Huthmacher, Ryan (Luda) Huthmacher, Keith Huthmacher, Peter (Kristina) Huthmacher, Robert, Christy and Tom Genta; great grandchildren: Claire Minnaert, Connor and Carter Huthmacher, Natalii, Nathan and Natasha Miller and by Marusya Huthmacher; and also by all who knew him as Babe, Frankie Gentry, Uncle Frank or Grampy. Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
