George G. Newburn was born in Trinidad, CO. to Walter and Hilda Newburn. He attended and graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and later served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from a career in the pharmaceutical and vitamin business in 1994 and continued a very active and involved social life with his family, many friends, and his church. He developed the Stewardship Program at American Martyrs Church and received a Papal honor, "Benemerenti" (serving with distinction), and served in voluntary, administrative roles that greatly benefitted both the school and the parish. He had a life-long passion for the outdoors, was a stellar fisherman, an A1 gardener, and ran and played golf for much of his life. He enjoyed sharing these passions with his family and everyone around him. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Newburn, his son Joe, daughters Susan, Mary Louise, Carrie and Leslie, and seven grandchildren. A man of great personal character, he was a living definition of honesty, integrity, and courage. Forever kind and truly compassionate, he made the world brighter and better for each and every person who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Martyrs Church - 624 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, Ca 90266 Funeral mass will be held Monday, February 8, 2010 at 10 am at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach.
