Longtime Gardena resident Gilbert (Gib) Allen Lawrence, age 93, passed away on Sunday December 20, 2020. Born in Norfolk, Nebraska and raised on a farm, Gib retired from a career as an aircraft machinist in 1991.
Gib was an Army Corporal who served as part of the Third Division stationed in Germany. Gib was a life time member of both the Hawthorne VFM and the Hawthorne American Legion Post 314 serving as Second Vice Commander, First Vice Commander, Commander and Chaplain. He was the Head of the Honor Guard and maintained the rifles.
Gib loved to travel – taking seven luxury ship cruises, five river cruises and five travel excursions.
Gilbert was preceded in death by parents Samuel Fletcher Lawrence and Jenny Lenora (Eastborn) Lawrence; sisters Ellen Baskett and Isabelle (Don) Nelsen, brothers Loren Lawrence, Monty (Elaine) Lawrence, Jim (Vera) Lawrence and Sam Helen) Lawrence.
Gilbert is survived by his nephews Richard Lawrence and Robert Nelson, nieces Susan Coons and Sheryl Bighaus, great nephew Michael Coons and all of the Sunday Morning Breakfast friends.
