
Gilberto V. Ramirez, a long time resident of Southern, CA passed away on August 9, 2009 in Carson, CA. He was born in Hurley, New Mexico on November 30, 1933 and has resided in the Los Angeles area for the last 50 years.
Gilberto V. Ramirez spent 4 years in the Marines and served in the Korean War. He received medals for National Defense Service, Korean Service, U.N. Service, and Good Conduct. He also served as a Judo Expert, a 0311 Rifle Man, and as part of C Co, 1st Bn 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division SMF Camp Pen, CA and received honorable discharge as a Sergeant on September 2, 1957. After serving his country, he worked as a Supervisor at Martin Murrieta.
When Gilberto V. Ramirez wasn't working he spent his down time traveling. He loved taking road trips and taking drives with un-known destinations. He loved spending time with his very big family every opportunity he had. Taking spur of the moment drives to Palm Springs or Arizona was the norm for this free and very adventurous spirit.
Fan of the Raiders, Dodgers, and the Lakers, he definitely loved sports! He was so happy to have gatherings for finals and championships, especially the most recent Lakers 2009 Championship against Magic! He also enjoyed listening to old Tex-Mex tunes from the 50s and 60s and cooking up mean, green enchiladas using New Mexico chiles.
Survived by his wife Maria S. Ramirez, his Daughters; Dorothy Lopez, Donna Ramirez, Barbara Parra, Karina Reynoso, and Lisa Martinez, and his Sons; Gilbert (Tim) Ramirez & Frank Martinez, his Sisters; Minnie Vasquez, Tessie Chavez, and Tillie Calderon, his 20 Grandchildren; Theresa, Jessica, Monica, David, Arleen, Stevie, Roxanne, Nadia, Timothy Jr., Elizabeth, Marlena, Natalie, Brianna, Olivia Anthony, Roxie, Sebastian, Alyssa, Natalia, and Valerie, and his 5 Great-Grandchildren; Jazmynn, Robert, Vanessa, Anthony, and Noah.
A very intimate ceremony will take place for the immediate family in Redondo Beach, CA on the morning of Saturday August 15, 2009. It will begin with an honorary military ceremony and proceed with a boat ride off the coast of King Harbor for the dispersing of his ashes. Afterwards a gathering for family and friends will take place at his home in Carson, CA at 12:00 PM.
