It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Goverdhan Singh Jhota, a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was marked by intelligence, determination, discipline, and strong convictions.
He was born in Udaipur, India. As a young man, he came to the United States on his own to pursue his master’s degree, beginning a journey that would shape the rest of his life. Through hard work and perseverance, he established himself and built a family.
He was an intelligent and exceptionally well-read man with a lifelong appreciation for knowledge. He enjoyed reading, learning, and understanding the world around him. Education was important to him, and his intellectual curiosity remained a defining part of his character.
He was a man who knew what he wanted and was comfortable standing by his convictions. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and taught his children to make good choices, take responsibility for their actions, and become independent and capable adults.
He also believed strongly in discipline and taking care of oneself. He maintained healthy eating habits and, for much of his life, walked three miles every day. His commitment to staying healthy and active was simply part of the way he lived.
He shared his life with his wife, Prasanna, who passed away five years before him. Together, they raised three children: Rekha Mukadam (Hasham), Ravi Jhota (Vandana), and Raashi Quattlebaum (Cletis). They watched their family grow to include six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was not a man who often expressed himself through outward affection, but he was a man with clear beliefs, high standards, and a distinct way of seeing the world. His children learned from him the importance of education, discipline, independence, and knowing the difference between right and wrong.
His journey from Udaipur to the United States, arriving alone to pursue his education and ultimately raising a family, was a significant accomplishment. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, each carrying forward a part of the life he created.
Five years after losing Prasanna, he now joins her, leaving behind the family they built together.
He came to America with determination, pursued a life of knowledge and purpose, and leaves behind a family that will carry his story forward.
He will be remembered for his intellect, his love of learning, his strong will, his discipline, and the unique life he lived.
May his memory, and the memory of Prasanna, be remembered with peace.
