Gus Magles, affectionately known to his family as "Bapa," passed away peacefully at home in Torrance, California, on September 30, 2026, at the age of 86. He leaves behind a rich legacy of hard work, extraordinary craftsmanship, and unconditional love for his family.
Raised in Gardena, California, Gus met the love of his life, Isabel in 1956. Gus and Isabel married in 1957 and lived in Redondo Beach until they moved to West Torrance in 1962 - beginning a shared journey that spanned decades and served as the anchor for a close-knit family.
A proud member of Ironworkers Local 433 for more than 35 years, Gus was a master of his trade and a true builder at heart. He loved nothing more than tinkering, fixing, and building with his hands. Among his proudest personal accomplishments was building a 1931 Ford Model A entirely from the ground up—a passion project that earned him numerous first-place trophies at car shows over the years. As his grandchildren often said, Bapa was uniquely talented and could fix or do anything.
Above all his crafts and achievements, Gus’s greatest build was the life and home he provided for his family. He built a beautiful home in West Torrance that served as the backdrop for decades of holiday gatherings, laughter, and warm memories. His family was his world.
Gus is survived by his beloved wife, Isabel; his children, Gus Jr. (Marietta), Steve (Christy), and Vikki; his grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas (children of Gus Jr. and Marietta), Jesse, Brianna, and Taylor (children of Steve and Christy); his granddogs Nala and Bop-Bop.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions.
Reception: Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions.
Graveside Service: Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Pacific Crest Cemetery (2701 182nd St, Redondo Beach, CA 90278)
