

Helen Irene (Nichols) Fischer, age 94, of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of almost 73 years, Charles L. Fischer, Jr., two sisters; Joan (Nichols) Brenk and Carol (Nichols) LeBarge, a sister-in-law; Yvonne Nichols, seven children; Mary I. (Fischer) Mangiona and husband Robert, Thomas J. Fischer and wife Colette, Robert D. Fischer, William C. Fischer and wife Shelly, Ann E. Fischer, Jeanne L. (Fischer) Smith and husband Gerald, Christine M. (Fischer) Russo and husband Brian, as well as ten grandchildren; Aimee (Mangiona) Ousley and husband Jeffrey, Andrew Mangiona, Christopher Fischer, Nicholas Fischer and wife Tanasa, Erika (Fischer) Vink and husband Brom, Alexandra (Fischer) Perez and husband Albino, Charles Fischer, Michael Fischer, Lauren (Fischer) Onorato and husband Augustino, Jennifer Ries, and two great grandchildren; Azella Fischer and Wolfgang Fischer.
Helen was a graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. After raising seven children, she went back to school to re-certify her nursing credentials and worked for ten years at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. She was very active at Saint James Catholic Church and the school, as the school nurse, when her children were young. Helen participated in many groups such as Mission Circle, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the St. James Council of Women. She loved playing Bridge with friends and cards with family members. Helen could always be found lending a empathetic ear or a helping hand to anyone in need. She embraced life with love and laughter, had a great sense of humor, a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Taiwan and Europe.
A visitation will be held at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions, Rice Center, Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, California 90503. The rosary will be recited from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held on May 21, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, 415 Vincent Street, Redondo Beach, California 90277 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the church hall from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A private burial will take place later that day at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
