
Dalton, Jack Merle, 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at his family home in Redondo Beach. Born in Goldthwaite, Texas to Cathy “Cleo†Bennett (Bradley) and Guy Harold Dalton, he was a third generation sailor. When he was 17, his mother remarried and the family moved to Redondo Beach. Jack was a proud member of The Sailors Union of the Pacific and the Elk’s Club. He also served in the U.S. Merchant Marines. As a sailor, he traveled the world and would bring his children gifts from exotic lands such as Peru and Malaysia. He sailed from 1945 until 1983, and when he married his second wife Letty Domingo, took a job as a longshoreman to be near her. At the time of his death, he was still working as a Dock Bosun in San Pedro. He loved his work and the sea. Jack enjoyed flying his Cessna 170, going to air shows and gun shows, and reading. He was also a talented photographer. His one other passion was his beautiful wife Letty, who he adored.
He is survived by wife, Letty of Banning, CA; son Jack (Pam) Dalton Jr. of Aliso Viejo, CA, daughter Linda (Nick) Dalton of Orange, CA; daughter Jamie (Bill) Smith of Irvine, CA; former wife Rocki Schauer of Indio, CA; his two granddaughters Alison Cayetano and Shelley Norfleet; his brothers Steve (Sara) and Mark (Debbie) Bradley; his sister Donna Darlene (Donald) Van Bibber; and several nieces and nephews. A gathering of family & friends will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Hermosa Beach on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
