Jim was born on October 6, 1937 and raised in South Philadelphia, the grandson of Irish and Swiss immigrants. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where he was on the rowing team, on to the Wharton School of Business and then made the move to the beaches of Southern California in 1963. There he began his 50 year career in Los Angeles real estate and met his lifelong love on a blind date. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara, his son Patrick (Genevieve), daughter Catherine (Aaron Wachtfogel), and grandsons Sheamus, Kellan, Kieran and Thomas. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and took much joy in all of the time the family was together. He was a much loved and respected man by everyone he met, a loyal and faithful friend whose advice was valued.
Jim loved his life with Barbara in Manhattan Beach, active and successful in business, traveling, and playing weekly tennis and golf with his friends.
Donations may be given in remembrance of Jim to the Aplastic Anemia Foundation & MDS International (aamds.org) or the two charities he contributed to regularly, Wounded Warriors (woundedwarriorproject.org) and St. Jude Children's Hospital (stjude.org).
The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach on Friday, June 23rd at 10:00am.
