It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jane Duhon, on April 3, 2026. Jane was born on the family farm in South Dakota on December 30, 1931 to Leo and Marguerite Weidenkopf. Hard times fell on the Weidenkopf’s as a result of the depression and the dust bowl so when Jane was 9, the family moved to Compton, California. Jane graduated from St Anthony’s High School in Long Beach. She then went to work as a Secretary at Northrop for 7 years during which time she met Eris, her husband of 52 years until his death in 2009. The Duhon’s made their home in west Torrance. After Jane became pregnant with their first child, she left Northrop to become a full-time homemaker and mother.
Jane was a devout Catholic who lived her life guided by her strong faith. She was a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach for 50 years until her move to Louisiana in 2013 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She joined the parish of St Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Jane was an avid bowler well into her 70's, bowling on two leagues at Palos Verdes Bowl.. She loved to watch her favorite sports teams - Kings Hockey, Lakers Basketball, Dodgers Baseball, and Notre Dame Football. Most of all, Jane loved and cherished her children, grandchildren and her very large and close-knit family. Along with her brothers and sisters, she had many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she enjoyed spending time with.
Jane is survived by her daughter Malana Mouton (James) and son Mark Duhon (Theresa), grandchildren Daniel Duhon, Warren Duhon (Sylvia), and Laurel Geraci, and great grandchildren Beau and Claire Duhon along with her sister Rose Wells and sister in-law Pat Weidenkopf. She was preceded in death by her husband Eris, parents Leo and Marguerite Weidenkopf, brothers Bud and wife Virginia, John (killed in WWII), Eugene and wife Carol, and Jim, and sisters Marguerite Bradshaw and Dona Centanni and her husband John.
A special thank you to Jane’s caregivers, Ruby, Leila, Ashley, and Leah as well as the wonderful support, guidance, and care we received from Hospice of Acadiana.
Pallbearers will be Mark Duhon, Daniel Duhon, Warren Duhon, James Mouton, Alex Kilcullen, and Daniel Leach.
