Janice Carolyn Sachs Griffith

Janice Sachs Griffith, a 64-year resident of Torrance, passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side on February 15, 2020. Janice was born in Bedford, Pennsylvania on July 5, 1945 and raised in Norfolk, Virginia until her family moved out west to the South Bay in 1956. After graduating from Torrance High in 1963, she attended California State University, Long Beach and soon after began her 37-year teaching career in Los Angeles Unified School District. Janice taught at Woodcrest Elementary School in Los Angeles and then Carson Street Elementary until her retirement in 2008.

Janice will be remembered for her love of animals, always helping and encouraging others, her generosity and most of all her kindness and love toward others.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Edyth Sachs and brother Neil (Annette) Sachs. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Michael Griffith: Michael’s children Betsy (Dave) Summers of Fullerton, Katie (Jeff) Schenkelberg of Torrance, brother Frederick Sachs (Mihoko) of Pleasanton, California, sister Joan Mezei of Yelm, Washington, niece April Coffman Ryan (Tim) and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Her deep presence in our lives will be sorely missed.
