
Jean L. Halvorsen of Palos Verdes Peninsula, born March 20, 1918, in Owatonna, Minnesota passed away December 31, 2004 peacefully at her home. She is survived by two daughters, Joy Halvorsen Richardson of San Luis Obispo, CA and Gay Halvorsen Swanson of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; one son Greg (Laurie) Halvorsen of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; and four grandchildren, Andrew, Ashley Jean, Brandon and Ryan.
Jean came to Southern California in 1940 as a bride and lived in the Beach Cities until 1945 at which time she and her husband, Gordon, were transferred to the Cleveland area with the Dicalite Company. In October of 1961 the family was sent back to Southern California and they settled on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. In 1970 Jean went to work as a hostess with Welcome Wagon International meeting and greeting new comers to the Peninsula. She loved sharing her knowledge of the businesses and organizations on the Hill. She had a short career as a telemarketer with Farmer Bros. Coffee before deciding she would stay home to enjoy her family, garden, chickens, and friends. While living in Cleveland, Jean was a member of Eastern Star; in California Jean was an active member of the Neighborhood Church, the Palos Verdes Woman's Club, Weavers/San Pedro Assistance League, Las Amigas de Las Lomas auxiliary of Orthopaedic Hospital. She was an avid bridge player playing with three groups each month.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, January 13 at the Neighborhood Church, 415 Paseo del Mar, Palos Verdes Estates, followed by reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Jean Halvorsen Memorial Fund at the Neighborhood Church and/or the Crippled Children's Guild of Orthopaedic Hospital, 2400 S. Flower Street, Los Angeles, CA 90007.
