

Born on March 1, 1932, in Hermosa Beach, CA, Chuey grew up with a deep love for his family and community. He graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1950 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
In 1955, Chuey married the love of his life, Lupe, at St. James Catholic Church, where they were long-time members. Their marriage spanned 66 beautiful years, built on faith, love, and devotion. Together, they created a life rooted in family and cherished traditions.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lupe, and their son, Esteban, who died during childhood. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his four surviving children Greg (Irene) Hernandez, Ernie (Susan) Hernandez, Robert Hernandez, and Felicia (Dan) Shanahan; ten grandchildren, Teresa, Alex, Gregory, Rebecca & Josh Hernandez, Katie & Matthew Shanahan, Lauren (Drake) Munoz, Danielle (Jack) Polerecky, and Ilana (John) Howard; and two great-grandchildren Noah & Neala Munoz.
Chuey will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his faith, and the warmth he brought to everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
Now, he rests in peace, joyfully reunited with Lupe and their son, watching over the family they built together.
