
John David Burns, a long time resident of Hermosa Beach, CA passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in El Segundo, CA. John was born in Charleston, West Virginia on February 27, 1959 and has resided in the South Bay area for the last 48 years.
John was self employed in construction in the South Bay for many years as a handyman. His company was called "I Do it All - Handyman Service".
A devoted father, John was a man filled with joy for life and lived it to the fullest. His laughter and sense of humor will be missed greatly by all. John could make a bad situation better, just by being there. John loved the beach and could be seen every day riding his bike in Hermosa. He loved to watch the sunsets and spending time with his kids and family.
John loved the Lord and never missed Mass on Sunday. He knew that when the time came to go to be with God, he would not afraid to go and that he would be at home in Heaven. John was a Member of the Knights of Columbus, Redondo Beach, Ca.
Hobbies included bike riding, bowling and movies. John was an avid history buff, he knew everything there was to know about World War II. John was a long time Rams fan, he never missed a game. John also was a big fan of the Lakers and the Dodgers. John loved to go to the movies, especially with his children and family.
Survived by his daughter, Shannon Burns, his son, David Burns, Mother, Janise Fife, stepfather, Bill Fife; two brothers, Stephen Burns and Thomas Burns, three sisters, Sandra Gebel (Jim), Kathy McCann (Tim), Robin Long (Woody); nephew Stephen Erickson; nieces, Meghan McCann, Kellie McCann, Gillian McCann, Michaela McCann, Mallory Long and Amy Long.
Preceded in death by his father, Stephen Burns, stepfather, Bill Atha., grandparents, Stephen and Nellie Burns and John and Margaret Ritz.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Rice Chapel Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA between 5:00 - 9:00 PM. Vigil Service @ 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass Service will be held, Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 415 Vincent Street, Redondo Beach, CA. Graveside service will follow, immediately after the Funeral Mass, at Green Hills Cemetery, San Pedro, CA.
