John Allan Lacey

John Allan Lacey died at his home in Riverside, California on February 18. His family moved to the South Bay from his native Vancouver in the early 1930s and he lived there until the late 1980s. He served in the Army Air Corp as a control tower operator in the Pacific theater during World War II. John was active in city politics in Manhattan Beach serving on the Planning Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission. In 1980 he was elected City Clerk of Manhattan Beach and served in that role until 1988. He was a long-time member of the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Redondo Beach Rotary Club, and the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge. During the 1960s and early 1970s he operated the Gay 90s Ice Cream Parlor in Manhattan Beach with his first wife Dee. After Dee's death, he met Nancy, who was City Clerk of Irvine, at a City Clerks Convention and they were married for almost 20 years.

John is survived by his wife, Nancy, his son Mike Lacey of Rolling Hills Estates who owns the Comedy & Magic Club, his son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathleen Lacey of Rolling Hills who are both Professors at Cal State Long Beach, three granddaughters, Vickie, Joyce, and Karalyn, and a brother and four sisters, including Catherine Murray of Hermosa Beach. A private memorial service is planned.
