Miss Me, But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little but not too long, And not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me . . . but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone. It’s all a part of the master plan A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds, Miss me . . . but let me go.

When I became principal of Ascension Lutheran School in the mid-seventies, John was congregational secretary and a very influential member of Ascension's leadership. I contacted John and asked him to be a "Dutch Uncle" to me, previewing and helping shape ideas I had for the school, and then helping me advance them through the Voter's Assembly. John agreed, and we worked together very well. I chose John to do that because of his intellect, honesty and commitment to the good of the church. I consider him a fine friend and look forward to seeing him again.

And Jan and I will always remember how Audrey gave so much love and time to helping "pattern" our daughter Joanna.

Our love to your family.
