
John Joseph Rice, "Jack," born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania September 17, 1919, went to heaven peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 21, 2007. Jack came to California in 1941 and worked as Traffic Manager for Civil Service for 20 years and Hughes Aircraft for another 20 years. Jack served in the Navy from 1944-1946 as a Storekeeper Second Class. Jack, a 54-year resident of Torrance, was 88 when he died from a stroke he suffered on the 2nd hole at Los Verdes Golf Club where Jack was a member for over 30 years. Golf was Jack's passion. In addition, Jack participated as an usher for St. Lawrence Martyr Church for over 50 years. Moreover, Jack played the ukulele and sung old 30's and 40's songs for the elderly at convalescent homes for many years. Jack was married to his beautiful wife Jeanette Rice (Yates) of Torrance for 65 wonderful years. He is also survived by son Tim Rice of Torrance; son Peter (Joyce Dallal) of Culver City CA; daughter Jill McDermott (John) of Simi Valley CA; Daughter Sally Rice of San Clemente CA; Grandchildren Diane, Donna, Denae, Tara, Deonna, Corey, Naima, and Skyland; Great Grandchildren Cade, Johnny, Patrick, Logan, Brittney, Hailey, Aiden, Dylan, and Ethan.
The Memorial Service will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church in Redondo Beach on Thursday December 27, 2007 at 10am.
