I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to you and to all of your family.  I don't know any of you, but it is possible that my daughter, Michella Matasso, may have known your son.  She was a Varsiy Cheerleader. She graduated from South High in 2004.  She was killed by a drunk driver last year.      I am proud of your hero son. He was honored by the community in a memorable way.  We won't forget him.

I remember Joe as a great young man when I worked at South High. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I knew Joe from Elemantary - High School. He was a really sweet, caring and very respectful young man.He was an unbelievable football player and friend. I remember giving him  rides home from South to his house when it rained. And he never wanted a ride, he just wanted to walk and think about life. But healways managed to jumpin the car with a cheerful face and greatly appreciate it. Joe Im going to miss you so much. You will never be forgotten, i still feel ur spirit and i will cherish the memories we had . I love you buddy.

We are so sorry for the loss of your son. The pain of losing a child is hard. Even though the pain never leaves we hope it helps knowing that Joe is a hero. Our children are in the Army. One son in Iraq another son on his way to Iraq, a daughter at FT Bragg another daughter leaving for Basic next month. We know all too well of the sacrifices. Joseph and I used to talk almost everytime I get a chance when I was in Iraq.  He used to ask me a lot of questions about the military and how it's like.  I kept telling him to stay in school but he really wanted to serve his country and join the Military so I told him follow where your heart takes you but think real well that it is what you want to do that way you won't have any regrets. I knew right then that he will become a great soldier and I wasn't wrong.  All he wanted was to serve his country and get a better life.  He served his country so damn well that I am very proud of him. Because of him, others will have a better life and I am very thankful. Joseph, I will never forget you and that I will think of you every single day for the rest of my life.  Myself and your fellow soldiers will continue on this fight for you so don't worry.  I love and miss you my little brother.  Rest in Peace my friend!

I will always remember what a polite little boy he was.  Ryan and I lived across the street from you on 159th St.  Ryan had ADD and was a little different from the other boys.  Some of the other boys would tease Ryan, but not little Joe.  Even though he could tell that Ryan was different, he was always nice to Ryan.  I also remember his determination.  Whenever the neighborhood boys would gather to play Nintendo, little Joe was always the smallest.  But that didn't keep him from playing the game.  The older boys would hog the game at first, but littl Joe would stand between the boys and the TV, look up at them and say "can I play? can I play? can I play, when's it gonna be my turn?"  He made sure that he got his turn to play before he left, one way or another !  My heart is so heavy with grief and symapthy for you.  It would be nice to see you again and share memories of our past.  I lived in that house for 10 years, that's a big chunk of my life and many memories, mostly good. I was so sorry to hear about Joseph.  I'm a military wife and this has always been my biggest fear.  I'm so sorry it had to happen to you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time in your lives.  I am the wife of a retired 10th Mountain soldier and the Mom of a  current 10th Mountain soldier, both who have served in the desert.  I am the sister of a Marine on his way home from the Persian Gulf. There are just no words that I can say to bring comfort to your family.  I have lost a brother who I loved dearly and that was one of the hardest things I ever went through so I know what Casey is going through.  We live about a 1/2 mile from Ft. Drum. We feel and see the effects of these wars everyday in the faces of our soldiers and families.  We cheer every time a plane goes over our house bringing our soldiers home, that truly is the sound of freedom.  We mourn every time we hear of one of our soldiers not making that trip home again. I think only other military families can understand the sacrifices we make when we have a loved one serving.  You are not alone in your grief and your son is one of our true American heroes. He will never be forgotten in our hearts and we do understand the ultimate sacrifice that he and you gave.

My prayers are with you and your family during this trying time. I am a military wife and losing my husband is one of my biggest fears. To the family of Joseph Anzack,    What you have experienced is absolutely heartbreaking.  I was just at Rice Mortuary a week and a half ago for the funeral of a friend.  I've been watching the funeral procession on the Internet, and look at all the people on the streets!  It must be of some small comfort to know that so many people's thoughts and prayers are with you now.  He was a wonderful and special person, and he will live in many people's hearts forever.  Our service men and women are the real heroes of our time.

What a special young man he was and a great example of what a real hero was I too watched the start of percession on the web. and was so touched I went outside to watch the carriage pass I will never forget it. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."      The loss of Joe is a tragedy to your family, but also to our country in these times of crisis. Words cannot express the gratitude I have to Joe for his courage in serving us and our country.      I cannot express my deep sorrow for your families loss. God bless Joe and god bless each member of your family during this time.

I didn't know Joseph or any of you in his family or community. However, like so many others around this great nation of ours, I have heard the story of what happened. My heart & deepest sympathy goes out to each & every one of you. My prayers are with all of you. I know that Joe was a remarkable young man and he died with honor fighting for his country so that we can all enjoy our freedoms every single day; that is the ultimate sacrifice and I am truly grateful for his service. Thank you for raising that type of human being. May he rest in peace as an angel in paradise now, until you are all reunited with him someday. God bless & take care.

I do not know you but as the mother of a young son and a Torrance resident, I was so very touched by Joe's story .  I had the privliage of attending the services at South High and I will always treasure the experiance.  I wanted to attend just to say THANK YOU for allowing non-family and friends participate. It was truly moving.  God bless you all and you and Joe will always be im my prayers.

I did not know your son, but I am very thankful that your son servied our county to keep it safe.  I will never now the pain of lossing a child because I never had any children. Joe Sr. & Family,   My thoughts and prayers are with you, your young and beautiful son/brother Joseph Jr., and your family. The horse drawn procession through Torrance and the memorial at South High for Joe Jr. was beautiful! My young daughters and I will never forget that day - of the people that lined the streets holding American Flags, the Patriots following the procession riding motorcycles and carrying American Flags, the people that were sitting in the stands or standing outside the South High football field to pay their respects to Joseph Jr. and your family. The scene was breath taking! My heart goes out to you and your family.   From an ole friend (from Susana Ave) and classmate (of Joe Sr.).

Our hearts break along with yours over the loss of your precious son Joe. We thank god for his service to our country but know in the end that these words most likely ring hollow at this time. My deepest condolences to the Anzack family. Unfortunately...I did not know Joseph Jr., but I did know Joseph Sr. and his sister Debbie (we grew up in generally the same neighborhood and attended the same schools). Joe...it was great seeing and talking with you again - after all those years. I am certain that Joseph Jr. was an amazing person because I always remember you and Debbie being incredibly kind to everyone. Joseph Jr's. selfless heroism will be appreciated and remembered forever. My heartfelt prayers are with your family at this trying time...
