

Joyce grew up among her aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents, all of whom lived in the area. When very young, she joined Camp Fire Girls and continued through high school going every year to Camp Keewano on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Joyce attended school in Ottowa Hills and in 1955 she graduated from Ottowa Hills High. Shortly after graduation she moved out to Los Angeles, CA where her mom lived after divorcing from Joyce’s father. Her mother had remarried and in 1954 Joyce’s sister Kitty was born.
Joyce was employed at Xerox Corp. from 1963 to 1999 when she retired after 36 years. Joyce was a hardworking and dependable employee and made many lasting friendships there. Joyce was a true and loyal friend and could be counted on to help in times of need.
In 1970 Joyce met the love of her life at Xerox and in 1975 she and John Fleming were married. They had an ideally happy marriage for 38 years. No two people could be closer or more committed to each other.
In 1980 Joyce’s nephew (the son of her sister Kitty) was born and in 1997 her niece Amy came along. Joyce loved David and Amy very much and they loved her just as much. She was generous to a fault and helped them both whenever she had a chance.
Joyce was a devout Christian and member of Ascension Lutheran where she attended services regularly.
Joyce had a melting heart and loved animals. She gave to many organizations devoted to lessening the suffering of domestic animals and to the protection of wild animals.
Joyce blessed all who knew her with love, kindness, humor, and generosity. She brought us all joy. She will be deeply missed.
