

Kathleen Mary (Ryan) McClain (Kay), 94, passed away peacefully Saturday February 21, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Kay was born in Dubuque, Iowa, August 11, 1920, daughter of Frank and Coletta (Summer) Ryan. She married James Wilson McClain, September 6, 1944 at Dow Field, Bangor, ME. After several years in Dubuque the couple moved to Torrance, CA and raised their five children. Kay was a devoted and dedicated homemaker, wife and mother. She volunteered hundreds of hours to Nativity Catholic School, Nativity Catholic Church Legion of Mary and Bishop Montgomery High School. Kay served as President of Nativity Catholic School Mothers’ Club and other offices. Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jim. Sweethearts forever, Kay and Jim’s lives centered on their five children, eleven grandchildren and five great-children. They lived and raised their family in Torrance for 63 years. After Jim’s retirement they traveled extensively in throughout the U.S. and Canada, Ireland, England, Germany and Italy. But home under the canopy of the backyard lemon tree was where they hosted with: barbecue, basketball and banter with five generations of family members. She is survived by daughters Ann (Mario) Guerra of Downey CA; Susan (Lenny) Wells of Bozeman, MT; Daniel (Felicia) McClain of Oak Hill, VA; Michael (Kathleen Quinn) McClain of Menlo Park, CA, and Patrick (Claudia) McClain of Everett WA. Grandchildren include Sean (Jen) and Anthony (Chelsea) Wells; Mario, Lynne Guerra Jackson (Ryan), Matt, Haley and Ryan Guerra; Tim (Ondine) and Caitlin McClain; and Megan McClain Duffy (Ryan) and Monica McClain. Great-grandchildren include Ava and Ian Wells, Bennett Guerra, Amelie McClain, and Porter Jackson. Visitation will be held at Halverson, Stone & Myers Mortuary, 1223 Cravens Avenue, Torrance on Sunday March 8, 2015 at 2pm with a Rosary Service at 4:30pm. A gathering of family and friends will follow the vigil at 1230 Amapola Avenue, Torrance. The Funeral Mass at 10am will be held at Nativity Catholic Church, 1447 Engracia Avenue Torrance on Monday March 9, 2015. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes.
