Named for her aunt and an Irish song, Kathleen Ruth Guerin was born July 21, 1917 in Stockton, CA the daughter of the late Marguerite Goossens Guerin Philbin and Michael Ryan Guerin. She died Saturday, January 14, 2006, in Claremont, CA. She grew up in Redondo Beach, where every work day she would walk across the dunes to the glass factory where her grandfather (and best friend) worked to take him his lunch. She dearly loved to tell of her conversations with "dad".
She graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1936, and shortly thereafter married Albert Harris Roth, who predeceased her in 1994. Together they brought up their family of six children, one of whom, Michael predeceased them both in 1988.
She was a full time mom, filling the hearts of her children with the love of books and learning, as well as a concern for the welfare of all of God's creatures, great and small. She was so pretty they were proud to be related.
If an absence of dreams is a sign of age, she was very young.
She leaves to love her always her daughters Marguerite Roth of Sacramento, Loretta Roth of Claremont and Josette Bishop of Redondo Beach, and her sons, John Roth of Redondo Beach and Albert Roth (Cheryl) of Lake Forrest. She is also survived by her sister, Georgia Philbin Marshall of Culver City; three grandchildren, Paul Bishop and Kayla and Brian Roth; a nephew, George Marshall and two great-grandchildren. A vigil will be held at White & Day Colonial Chapel on Friday, January 20, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. A mass will be held in celebration of her life at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Hermosa Beach on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA.
