Kevin Aaron Castaneda was born in Torrance on April 18, 1994. He was exceptionally brilliant earning his High School Diploma at the young age of 16. He was currently enrolled at El Camino Community College and was looking forward to pursuing a career in the field of Zoology. Among his many interests were music, gaming, making people laugh, giving massages to his aunties & spending quality time with his family and pets.

Although Kevin towered over everyone at 6’ 5”, he was a gentle giant, and was always giving bear hugs and warm kisses to everyone who needed love. His love extended to his cat Roo, and dogs, Daisy, Nina, and Jack. He was best known by family and friends for his witty sense of humor, his bright spirit, his boisterous laugh and charming smile. He was a wonderful person overall who touched those around him through his sincerity, generosity, and kindhearted nature.

Kevin passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 7, 2013, just eleven days short of his 19th birthday. Kevin joins his late grandmother, Carol Castaneda, and is survived by his mom and dad, Aleda and Fernando Hockenberry; his best friend and sister, Ashley; his brothers, Nano and Diego; his grandparents, Anne and George Valle; his godmother, Krista, and her family: his uncle David and cousins Kristopher and Julia; his aunt Tammy and her family: his uncle Albert and cousins Ezra and Gavin; his uncle Georgie and aunt Carly; his father, Jeff Castaneda; his grandfather, Cecil Castaneda; his uncle Rick Castaneda; and a large extended family of great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The Hockenberry, Valle, Castaneda and Duran families miss their beloved baby boy, but are blessed to have had him in their lives. A memorial service in Kevin’s honor will be held at the Halverson, Stone, and Myers Mortuary in Torrance on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.

Kevin was an old soul with a youthful spirit. He is gone, but will never be forgotten; he is truly loved and will always be missed. “May the force be with him.”

Sarcasm only begets wisdom when it comes to you. Quick with a quip or a come-back, any one who was lucky to know you knew that you were one step ahead. Your jokes rule.

Son, it has been a while since I've written you. Last night I dreamt of you. I could see you at the front door coming home from school. Your had a peaceful look on your face, smiling as I remember you. It was nice to see you again even if it was just a dream. We greatly miss you, the days are long and hard, the many great memories you left us with, give us slight comfort. Looking forward to dreaming of you again, love your dad
