A service in her memory will be held at Lighthouse Memorial in Torrance, California at 901 Torrance Blvd on Saturday, January 11th at 11am, followed by a reception from 12pm - 3pm.
Lilia was born in 1934 in Bogota, Colombia to Margarita Hernandez and Gonzalo Gutierrez. The eldest daughter of seven siblings, Lilia supported her mother in all things homemaking and found a passion for caring for others early in life.
In 1955, she met her husband Jose Enio Ramirez. The family emigrated to New York in 1962, where she rose to the challenge of navigating a new city, language, and culture. In 1982, Lilia and Enio moved from New York to Torrance where she lived until her death.
She raised five children and her magnetic personality drew friendship and community no matter the room, city, or country. For Lilia, a day well spent was filled with music, beautiful flowers, good conversation, something sweet, and a good cup of coffee. She was always within arm’s reach of a crochet, knitting, or sewing project for someone she loved, and every dish she cooked was a love letter, from the biggest family meal to the smallest bowl of popcorn.
She will be remembered and deeply missed for her wit, strength, faith, and optimism. Equal parts headstrong and warm hearted, to know her was to be in good company and to be loved by her was to be surrounded by protection and affection. She is survived by five children, 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and countless friends.
