Luigi Raffaele Stamegna passed away in Torrance on January 18, 2005 leaving behind many memories of laughter, joy, and love. He passionately enjoyed operas and classical music, gardening, cooking, wine-making and tasting, and he thoroughly enjoyed every waking minute with his family and friends. On February 4, 1917, Luigi was welcomed into this world, into the Italian town of Itri, where as a young man, he worked as a Municipal Water District Official. In 1941, Luigi wed Antonia Maggiacomo; however, on the night of the couples’ wedding, the Italian Army drafted Luigi to service. During his eight years of military, Luigi worked as a Horse Trainer in the Italian Calvary. As the couple raised a family, they endured the painful loss of two children (one at five years old and the second at birth). In 1970, Luigi and Antonia journeyed to the United States to the City of Hawthorne, where they established their permanent residency in hopes for a better future for their children. On July 8, 2004, after 63 years of devoted marriage, Luigi’s beautiful bride, Antonia, passed away in Torrance, Ca. Luigi is survived by his five daughters and two sons: Raffaele Stamegna (Elisa), Anna Agresti (Emilio), Alida Schiappa (Eugenio), Giovanna Ciccone (Fabio), Ivano Stamegna (Theresa), Francesca Dennis, and Rita Vujicic (Batta).
