Maria Omegna Figueroa

Maria Omegna Figueroa a 44 year resident of Redondo Beach passed away on January 15th 2009. She was born in 1933 in the small town of San Antonio Chile, where she was crowned "Miss San Antonio" at age 17. In 1965 she moved from Chile to the United States with her husband and 3 boys. Maria attended El Camino College and later UCLA where she graduated Suma Cum Laude and received her B.A in education in 1971. She began her teaching career in 1973 at Stephen M. White middle school where she taught until 2003. It was during this time that she also taught for the Redondo Beach and Torrance adult school programs. She was a dedicated and inspirational teacher that touched the lives of her students and coworkers. She was blessed with the ability to make her students believe in themselves using discipline and affection. She was a special person that loved poetry and literature (she sometimes would use both in her classes) but above all she was a devoted mother that loved her family. She leaves behind her sons Peter, Carlos, Chris, Diana her daughter in law, her grand children Nicholas, Max, Ben, Florencia, Martin and Alonso. She will be missed more than words can convey

Funeral services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park Chapel on Saturday the 24th of 2009 at 11:00 am located at 27501 S. Western Ave. Rancho Palos Verdes
