

Mary Ellen La Rue 77 of Torrance died Saturday November 26, 2022, at The Caring House in Torrance California. She was born December 3, 1944, in Los Angeles California to Leo and Mary Sweeney. Mary was the second oldest of three sisters and spent all of her school years attending Saint Mary's academy in Los Angeles California.
Shortly after graduating high school, Mary met the love of her life Bill. Bill and Mary dated three years before getting married on August 27, 1966. After getting married Bill was drafted into the Army and spent two years overseas. Once he returned, they purchased their home in Torrance in August of 1970. During that time Mary found out she was pregnant with their first child. In April of 1971 they welcomed their son, three years later in November of 1974 they welcomed their second child a daughter.
Mary was a very devoted loving wife and mother. She spent her kids' childhood years as a stay-at-home mom. She was very involved with her kids and the family. She was part of boy scouts, girl scouts, little league, softball and the PTA. In the mid 80's Mary took on a seasonal job at Sav-On Pharmacy (CVS), where she continued to work until she retired in the mid 2000's.
One of the highlights of Mary's life came in November 2001 when she welcomed her first grandson. Mary's heart was full and so consumed with her new role as "Grandma" and it only got better from there. In September of 2008 Mary welcomed her second grandson, her heart was so complete. Her grandsons were her everything. She had said many times being a grandma was her favorite role to date. You could always find her babysitting, attending school functions, little league, football games, and assisting with Thursday night team dinners. Mary was so proud of her grandsons.
Mary is an extremely loved women and will be missed dearly by so many. Mary is survived by her husband- William (Bill) La Rue, son- Leo (Denna) La Rue, daughter- Shelley La Rue, grandsons- Joshua and Timothy La Rue, sisters- Diana Sweeney, Margert Harding, and Kathleen Sweeney, nephews, nieces, adopted granddaughters, and many family and friends.
