Born in: Riverside, California
Resided in: Hermosa Beach, California
Patricia (Pat) Ruth (Handlos) Bentley was born on February 28, 1933, to Richard F. Handlos and Jeanette Mildred Turner Handlos. She passed away at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital at the age of 93 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Pat was born at March Field, now known as March Air Reserve Base, in Riverside, California. At the time, her father was serving in the U.S. Army. She was five years old when her family moved to Hawthorne, California, in the late 1930s.
When Pat was about 15 years old, Richard and Jeanette were called to minister in the Philippines. Richard helped build the first radio broadcast transmitter in Manila for the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC). Once completed, it broadcast Christian radio programming as far away as China. Pat stayed for one year before returning to California, where she completed high school. She then attended Southern California Bible College in Pasadena for one year (Southern California College, now known as Vanguard University).
Pat met her husband, Glen, when she was 10 and he was 12. Patsy, as she was called then, was invited to attend Sunday School at Glen’s home, where Sunday School was held in the family’s one-car garage. They married in Inglewood, California, in 1951, and settled in a small house that Glen built on the corner of Carnegie Lane and Rindge Lane in Redondo Beach, California. They lived there for 20 years.
In 1972, they moved to a new home that Glen built on Gates Avenue in Redondo Beach, where they lived until 2019. Glen and Pat then moved to Sunrise Senior Living in Hermosa Beach, where Pat remained until her death.
Pat was a stay-at-home mom, raising three children, while Glen started his own framing contracting business, building houses throughout the South Bay. Pat was his partner in the business, keeping the company books and handling a multitude of tasks to help keep the business afloat. In 1972, Glen took a superintendent position working for a property developer.
Pat was always involved in ministry at their church, Del Aire Assembly of God, now known as New Life Community Church. She eventually began working full-time as the executive assistant to the pastor, a position she held for many years. She was a Sunday School superintendent, sang in the choir, served as a wedding coordinator, and, along with Glen, led the Prime Timers group.
Pat had great business acumen and was someone who could always be depended upon.
Pat was a woman of integrity, a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She was loved by many, and her children and grandchildren aspired to be like her.
She is survived by Ronald Bentley and Janet (Bentley) Williamson. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Glen Bentley, and her daughter, Kathy (Bentley) Mattox. She leaves behind eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday October 30, 2026 at New Life Community Church, 5009 119th Street, Hawthorne, California at 10:00 am.
