Ralph Garcia was a feisty, strong, loving man who was a fighter every second of his life. A Merced native, Ralph graduated from Merced High School in 1955 and joined the United States Marine Corps where he toured the Pacific. He met his wife, Ida Garcia, at his cousin’s wedding after being honorably discharged from the Marines. When Ralph and Ida married, he began studying to become an electrician, a profession he held for 50 years. Ralph was a hard worker who spent his life providing and caring for his wife and their two children.
Later in life, Ralph spent his days walking, reading, gardening, playing baseball and basketball, and playing with his granddaughter. He was incredibly quick witted and one knew he had a clever remark when a little smile would begin to appear on his face.
His greatest joy in life was his family. He loved watching the Los Angeles Angels with his wife, playing basketball with his daughter, coaching his son’s baseball teams, and teaching his granddaughter to play chess while talking politics.
Ralph will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ida, his daughter, Deanna Jones, his son, Ralph Garcia, his granddaughter, Hayley Jones, and his siblings Albert Garcia, Cora Rubio, and Joseph Garcia.
