Ramsay Mac Donald Downie

It is with sadness that we tell you of the sudden passing on July 1, 2009, of our beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle, but most of all Friend, Ramsay MacDonald Downie. A true Christian with a heart big enough for all who needed him, Ramsay is now in the loving embrace of our Lord, where he is at peace with his oldest son, Ramsay Jr., his parents, Ronald MacDonald Downie and Mary Nicol, as well as his beloved dog, Red.

Ramsay's distinguished 42 year career as a Teamster, delivering locally to restaurants in Southern California, is something he was truly proud of. But more than that, his career as a family man, who loved the simple things in life, is what truly sets him apart as a great provider and the cornerstone of our family. A wonderful day for him was time with family and friends, reminiscing about our shared past and creating lasting memories in the present. He loved his home and sharing it with those he cared about, always generous in heart and spirit.

A life-long love of all things related to autos and speed, he followed NASCAR racing and would often go to local drag races throughout his young adult life. We always knew where to find Pop the day of a big race-in his favorite chair, in the house he shared with his beautiful bride and best friend of fifty years, Sally. They were truly boyfriend and girlfriend for all the years they were blessed to be together.

Born and raised on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii, in the city of Wailuku, Ramsay spent his childhood working on his family's farm doing the hard work a farm takes. He taught his children the value of that hard work and that commitment to family and friends is first in life. He graduated from Maui High in 1955 and loved keeping in touch with his classmates through email and reunions.

He is survived by wife, Sally, his children, Scott, Danny, and Dorothy, and sister, Betty Osborn of Hillsboro, Oregon, and their families, including five grandchildren, Ramsay Patrick, Kelsie, Cooper, Sylvia, and Dallas.

Funeral mass will be held at 6:00pm on July 8th at American Martyrs Catholic Church, 624 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, California. Please join his family in a celebration of the life of Ramsay MacDonald Downie.
