Regina Uyehara, also known as Tina, was born in Waimanalo, Hawaii in 1939. Her family moved to the island of Lanai. She attended Lanai Elementary School and graduated from Lanai High School where she was in involved in clubs such as the Vocational Guidance Committee, Journalism Club and A Capella Choir.
After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to attend Woodbury College where she would earn her Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
She met Richard “Dick” Uyehara at a boarding house; he would take her and a friend to Sunday mass. While hesitant at first, Tina finally dated him and eventually the two of them were married at Our Lady of Loreto Church in Los Angeles.
Tina raised three children all while working various jobs. She babysat, held Tupperware parties, was an Avon Lady and did medical transcribing and billing in her “spare time.” Later she was the Computer Coordinator at Wilmington Junior High School from where she would retire.
She was a member of the St Philomena Women’s Council and the Pioneer Club, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader.
She was one of those people who could cook and made everything taste delicious with just a little of this and dash of that. She was a loving and giving person whose smile was infectious and engaging. Very generous, she always helped wherever she could.
She enjoyed performing hula with her friends in the Lapule Jammers.
She loved to travel and had wonderful memories of places like the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, glaciers in Glacier Bay National Park, the fall foliage in New England, a tequila factory in Puerta Vallarta, and, of course, the different casinos…
She is survived by her husband Dick, children Rick (Pat), Ron (Karyn) and Renee (Bob), seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren with one on the way.
In lieu of flowers, it was her wish for people to make a donation to a charity of their choice.
