
Hanson, Robert John, a 45-year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 in San Pedro after a brief illness. Born October 30, 1918 in Dubuque, Iowa, Robert was 87 when he died. Robert graduated from the US Naval Academy, Class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, primarily as a Naval Aviator, retiring as a Captain. He saw service in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Robert later received an MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business. Following his retirement from the Navy, he taught Accounting at LA Harbor College for 15 years.
Robert was a charter member of St. John Fisher Parish and a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a founding member of Los Verdes Golf and Country Club and was also an active member of the "Peck Park Patriots" tennis group for many years.
He is survived by sons Robert Jr. (Judi), David (Liz), and Tom (Dorothy) Hanson, and by daughter Christina (Bob) Papke. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Josephine C. "Jo" Hanson.
Viewing will be held at St. John Fisher at 9am on Friday, February 10th, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
