Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Bob moved to California at 13, where his family ran a hamburger stand in Los Angeles. He grew up working alongside his parents and developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work—and a great breakfast sandwich. After recovering from a serious motorcycle accident in high school, Bob earned his diploma and went on to become a locksmith, eventually buying Torrance Lock and Key with his wife Mary.
Bob and Mary shared a passion for adventure, traveling the world by cruise and later flying their own Cessna 182 after both earned pilot licenses. Their partnership lasted over 25 years and produced two children, Allison and Brian.
Bob had a deep love for classic cars, collecting and maintaining several vintage vehicles. In retirement, he spent much of his time at Torrance Airport, flying, telling stories, and driving cars from a friend’s collection—often joking it was his “job.”
To his five grandchildren, Bob was known as Papa—a steady, loving presence who read stories with funny voices, built things with them, attended every event he could, and flew across states (and even up to Alaska) just to spend time together.
Bob will be remembered for his big heart, contagious sense of humor, and deep devotion to family.
Surviving Family Members: Bob is survived by his children, Allison (Daniel) Felton and Brian (Mandi) Shapiro; his grandchildren Ryder, Faith, Quinn, Isabella, and Keira.
