
A native of Michigan, Ruth and her husband William George Parks were among the first homeowners to take up residence on East Walnut Avenue in El Segundo in 1948.
Ruth was secretary at Center Street Elementary School in El Segundo for more than 25 years and also served in that capacity at Richmond Street School. After her retirement, she served 2 terms on the El Segundo School Board and was recognized by the California State Senate for her service. She was also active as an officer of the El Segundo Unified School District Employees Federal Credit Union.
Ruth was an accomplished singer, seamstress, and craftsman working in stained glass for the past 25 years. She was teaching a class for beginners at the Joslyn Center in El Segundo at the time of her death.
Ruth was an active parishioner at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church and served as President of the Saint Anthony Scholarship Fund for many years raising thousands of dollars to support the Catholic education of many children.
William Parks predeceased Ruth passing away in 1951. Ruth is survived by her two daughters; Janice Parks Grimes of New Mexico and Barbara Parks Haig of South Pasadena; three grandchildren, Sean Grimes, Alicia Grimes O'Shaughnessy and Ariel Haig Storm; and two great grandchildren, Heather Grimes and Jacob Grimes.
Services will be held at Saint Anthony's Church in El Segundo, time and date to be determined.
She enjoyed the simple life, a good laugh, beautiful things, lasting friendships and time spent with family. She placed her trust in God and He has delivered her.
Ruth's family wishes to thank all of those in the community who helped and supported her through her long battle with Cancer. Your kindness and generosity have been invaluable.
