Shawn Jerome Carroll

July 21, 1947 - May 12, 2025

A long-time resident of Torrance, CA, for over 60 years, died at aged 77. Shawn passed away due to respiratory issues from pneumonia on May 12, 2025, at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance.

Shawn was born the 2nd son of 5 children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on July 21, 1947, to Canadian parents. He graduated from West High School, Torrance, in 1965. Shawn enjoyed surfing and playing tennis in his younger years. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 - 1970 and was a proud veteran and U.S. naturalized citizen. After having served for over 4 years, he was honorably discharged as a Senior Airman (rank Sgt E-4). Shawn was awarded the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (SAEMR), and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (AFOUA). He worked for Verizon (Formally GTE/General Telephone) as a Tele Equipment Tech and retired after working in the Torrance facility for over 40 years, in 2011.

Shawn was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 40 years, Teresa Jovel Carroll; his parents, Clifford Joseph Carroll and Marcella "Marcy" Frances Carroll (Bradley); his younger brother, Gary Joseph Carroll; his brother-in-law, David "Dave" Berger; his son, Jerick Carroll; and his step-son Jonathan Lucenda. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mario Villafana, and their son, Shawn's grandson, Joshua; his daughter, Yvonne Isidoro, and her sons, Shawn's grandson's, Cameron and Santino "Tino", her daughter, Shawn's granddaughter, Teagan; Jerick Carroll and Jaime Cordua's son and daughter, Shawn's grandson and granddaughter, Daniel and Michelle; daughter, Marcella "Marcy" Carroll; his brother and sister-in-law, James "Jim" Thomas Carroll and Samia Carroll (Boctor); his sister Marlayne Carroll Berger; and his sister and brother-in-law, Michele Carroll Jay and William "Bill" Jay. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Luis Maravilla and is survived by his wife, Teresa Jovel's remaining family members: his sister-in-law, Rosa "Rosie" Jovel (married to Luis Maravilla), and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vidal and Rutey Jovel Sr., Nelson and Clelia Jovel, Rigo and Yolanda Jovel, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Caty Turcio (Jovel) and Santiago Turcio. A special mention to Shawn's nephew, Guillermo "Memo" Maravilla (Luis Maravilla and Rosa "Rosie" Jovel's son), whom Shawn considered to be the son he never had! Lastly, he is survived by his many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins, all of whom he loved very much!

Shawn will be remembered fondly for his sociable and friendly personality, with a great sense of humor and his kind, caring, compassionate, gentle spirit! Shawn was a good son, dad, brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin, and he'll be forever in our hearts until we meet again!

A "Celebration of Life" memorial prayer service for Shawn will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions, Rice Center, 5310 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503, followed by a reception from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM.
