
Shirley Ann Jones Brooks was born in Orange, Texas, April 12, 1950 to parents, Joseph Jones and Florence Jones. She departed on July 22, 2010 and resided in Inglewood, CA. Shirley moved to Los Angeles where she attended 6th Avenue Elementary, Mount Vernon Junior High, Los Angeles High School and graduated from Dorsey High School. Shirley earned an academic scholarship to attend UCLA and graduated with a B.A. degree in psychology while working with the County of Los Angeles. Shirley then joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. After devoting 35 years of service with Los Angeles County and 29 years with the Sheriff's Department she retired on September 27, 2003. She was reared in The Church of God in Christ and seeking a church home as an adult. Shirley was a very loving, gentle, outgoing, sophisticated woman. She loved people and her family, enjoyed singing, dancing, playing cards, and being the life of the party. She was a debutant, a diva, a wife, a sister, a mother, a daughter, a grandmother, an aunt as well as a friend. Shirley will be greatly missed by many friends and many touched family members, including her only son, Brandon Brooks, and Grandson Collin Brooks. The Memorial Service will be held at McCormick Mortuary in Inglewood on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 12:00 PM. A Repast will follow in the Lighthouse Reception Room from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
